Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for details.
A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism made him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
